Long before she became its public voice, Dima Areilius was part of the band’s creative world. A close family friend, she grew up alongside its members and often joked that the band should bear her name. What began as a playful remark eventually became its identity.

 

In 2012, DIMA entered an extended hiatus following the passing of founding lead guitarist Mathew Gerken at the age of nineteen. His friendship, creativity, and unmistakable spirit remain woven into the band’s foundation, and every chapter since has been built in honor of the legacy he left behind.

 

When DIMA returned in 2020, Dima stepped forward as the band’s frontwoman, principal lyricist, violinist, and creative director. Together with Johann and Daniel, she helped shape a sound that merges traditional heavy metal, thrash, symphonic metal, industrial elements, cinematic orchestration, and modern influences into something both emotionally resonant and unapologetically heavy.

 

Her vocal style moves effortlessly between soaring symphonic passages, intimate melodic performances, gritty alternative textures, and commanding theatrical power. Johann’s versatile tenor provides both melodic warmth and aggressive intensity, allowing their voices to intertwine in harmonies that have become one of DIMA’s defining characteristics. Supported by Daniel’s precise and powerful drumming, the band’s music balances technical musicianship with emotional depth.

 

Lyrically, DIMA explores perseverance, sacrifice, justice, faith, hope, redemption, family, and the enduring conflict between light and darkness. Drawing from both personal reflection and imaginative storytelling, the band crafts songs that challenge, encourage, and invite listeners to confront difficult questions while refusing to surrender hope.

 

Although Dima serves as the band’s public voice, she has intentionally chosen to keep much of her personal life private. The band has consistently honored that decision, believing that the message carried through the music matters far more than the details of the messenger. Her story is ultimately her own to tell.
